The Macclesfield-born player, who also represents Germany at youth level, shone on his first-team debut for City. "To have a debut like this is just unbelievable," Samba told the BBC.
"I couldn’t believe it myself, but this is only the beginning. I have a big career ahead of me," added Samba, who plays for the Manchester side alongside his brother Tyrone, who is a year older.
His surname is already familiar to fans of English football. Floyd is the son of former towering centre-back Christopher Samba, who played in the Premier League for Blackburn and QPR. Unlike his father, however, he is a nimble midfielder.
But new City manager Enzo Maresca surprisingly deployed him as a striker against Norwich.
"He told me he’d never played as a number nine before. He’s definitely not a classic number nine, but he did brilliantly. He’s full of energy and knows how to finish. But we need to take things slowly with him," explained the Italian coach.
Compared to the weekend’s derby win over Manchester United, Maresca made 10 changes to the line-up, yet his team still completely dominated on the pitch.
Making his debut after joining from Palmeiras, Brazilian Allan Elias also got on the scoresheet, with Rayan Cherki and 18-year-old Ryan McAidoo rounding off the scoring.
Pep Guardiola’s successor has now won all six of his competitive matches this season. In the next round, City will face Brighton.
