Match report

Taking charge of his 542nd game in charge of Everton, David Moyes will have been pleased with his side’s positive start.

Vitaliy Mykolenko’s cross to the back post was nodded back across the face of the goal by Grealish for Beto to nod in, giving the Manchester City loanee a third assist in two games.

Wolves struggled to get going early on, but the home side drew level with their first chance midway through the half.

A swift team move culminated in Marshall Munetsi whipping a ball into the box for Hwang Hee-Chan to beat Jordan Pickford and slam home his first goal for the club since December.

The equaliser buoyed the home side, and they went close to taking the lead when Emmanuel Agbadou headed over.

After that, Grealish began pulling the strings for Everton as he dragged his side forward, and his reverse ball into the box released Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall down the left.

The former Chelsea man then picked out Iliman Ndiaye, who slid home and restored the Toffees’ lead going into the HT break.

Everton came out firing in the second half and had the ball in the net within minutes of the restart through Ndiaye once again, but the Senegalese was denied a brace by the offside flag.

However, Moyes’ men continued to dominate and added a third goal in the 55th minute.

Grealish was again the creator, running at the Wolves defence before slipping in Dewsbury-Hall, who rifled into the roof of the net despite the tight angle.

Vítor Pereira made a triple change on the hour mark, along with another two changes ahead of the final quarter hour, and two of the substitutes combined to pull a goal back for Pereira’s side when David Møller Wolfe’s ball into the box was powered home by Rodrigo Gomes

After cutting the deficit to one, Wolves threw everything forward in search of a third goal, but Everton’s defence coped well.

In the end, the Toffees held on to secure all three points, clinching a second win from their three opening games of the Premier League campaign, while Wolves suffered a third successive defeat - a worrying sign for Pereira..
