Maresca, 46, has been out of work since leaving Premier League side Chelsea by mutual consent back in early January.
According to TMW, Fiorentina’s sporting director Fabio Paratici held an informal call with Maresca to outline the club’s long-term project.
It’s understood that Fiorentina’s board are aware that a move for Maresca is virtually impossible, but insisted on trying regardless.
The Italian’s priority remains taking over at Manchester City, where he is regarded as a leading candidate to replace Pep Guardiola.
