Thomas Partey, the former Arsenal player, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Metropolitan Police say the offences are alleged to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.

The charges are broken down as follows: two counts of rape relate to one woman, three counts of rape relate to a second woman, and one count of sexual assault relates to a third woman.

These charges follow an investigation that began in February 2022, after a report of rape was first received, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Partey will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5th August.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.

“We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team."

Jaswant Narwal, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “We remind everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.

“We know there will be significant public interest in this announcement, but it is absolutely vital that there is no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

Partey, who most recently played for Premier League club Arsenal, is currently out of contract.

The 32-year-old Ghana international started his professional career with Atletico Madrid in Spain, before signing for the Gunners in 2020.

Partey and his representatives were unable to agree on a new deal with Arsenal this summer, after making 167 total appearances for the club.
