Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has addressed the media as he prepares to take on Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

The two sides meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in vastly different form.

Spurs have won only one of their last five matches, whilst Villa have won 12 and lost only one of their last 13 games across all competitions.

Villa will be aiming to secure their fourth victory in five visits to Tottenham’s ground, whilst Frank will hope to simply pick up a rare win and progress to the next round.

Team news

Frank first commented on team news in what should be a rotated Tottenham starting eleven as the hectic football calendar continues to exhaust top players.

"Lucas Bergvall is being assessed today. We will know more later today with him.

"Same with Rodrigo Bentancur. Rodri has a hamstring injury - looks like a bigger one, unfortunately. We don’t know the time frame. That we will know later.

"Mohammed Kudus unfortunately is a bigger one to the tendon in the quad. That is one where we expect him back after the March international break."

On Dejan Kulusevski: "He had an injection to help that 10 days ago. We will know in 3-4 weeks if that has settled. And when it has settled, hopefully, he will be on the grass and from there, we will see what is happening."

Frank responds to Romero's controversial comments

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero appeared to take aim at the club's hierarchy after Wednesday's defeat at Bournemouth, accusing them of telling "lies" in a since-edited Instagram post.

Frank has responded to these comments and admits conversations have gone on behind the scenes to address the issues.

"I think he has done a lot of things right. He has still a young leader and he has done a lot of things well on and off the pitch. I was very happy with his performance last night.

"He was true captain throughout the game and at half-time. But when you're a young leader sometimes you make mistakes. It is good to keep it internal. We had a good conversation this morning, which we will keep internally."

Romero's comments could hurt transfer hopes

He continued on the topic of Romero, suggesting that his comments could hurt the club's chances of bringing in their transfer targets, as the side could be portrayed as unsettled.

"I think, especially in football, the most important thing is to keep the noise out. Then you can see there's this situation with the post from Cuti.

"There could be others where it's maybe not that positive or a lot of people speaking.

"When we want to attract players, we need to tell our, as close to possible, unbiased story and a good story about this fantastic, beautiful club and why you should come to the club. I'm pretty sure that clever players and agents can look through if there's a little bit of noise.

"I think it's very important to stress that even though there's noise, the club is very aligned. Johan (Lange), Vinai (Venkatesham) and I are very aligned. Ownership is very aligned. We know it's a tough spell that we need to get through."

He finished with an analogy which will catch the eye of many fans wondering whether Frank could be under pressure: "In a storm, some are building fences and hiding behind it, others are building windmills and getting stronger and getting more energy and learning from it."
