Manchester City would love clarity over Pep Guardiola’s future - but the club already accept that no decision is likely before the end of the season.

Despite having one year remaining on his contract from this summer, there is uncertainty about what happens next.

And Flashscore sources are suggesting that no firm commitment is imminent.

Guardiola is not expected to announce if he is staying or leaving until the campaign concludes.

Those close to the situation indicate that it seems even the City manager himself does not yet know what he will do, with a final call likely to come in May.

The uncertainty comes at a fascinating moment in City’s season.

One month ago, there seemed to be a genuine possibility they could finish without major silverware. Instead, momentum has swung dramatically.

Victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final, followed by an emphatic FA Cup quarter-final win against Liverpool, has transformed the outlook.

In the Premier League, City remain nine points behind Arsenal with eight games to play, though they do have a game in hand.

While the title is still Arsenal’s to lose, the shift in momentum has increased pressure on the leaders.

A domestic treble is a possibility for City - and would represent a natural high point should Guardiola choose to step away.

However, sources stress that his decision will not be influenced by external pressure, nor rushed by anyone inside the club.

City’s hierarchy are understood to be fully aligned with Guardiola and will not push for a decision unless he volunteers one.

Their relations remain strong, allowing the manager the space to assess his future once the season’s outcome is clear.

Guardiola has always intended to leave City in a strong position when he leaves.

In the background, contingency planning has begun - with Enzo Maresca, Xabi Alonso and Vincent Kompany among the leading candidates should a change be required.
