We revealed last week on Flashscore that City were in a head-to-head battle with Manchester United to claim the signing of the wide attacker - and later that day Semenyo and his representatives edged closer to choosing a move to Etihad Stadium.
There have been some reports that Liverpool are looking to hijack the deal but, as of Sunday night, that was not quite the case.
City are confident of a deal and now are ready to speak to Bournemouth again about how soon a deal can be signed off.
There could yet be some minor problems, in that Bournemouth have a busy schedule, their form has dipped, and they do not have an immediate replacement lined up.
Sources are indicating a preference from Bournemouth not to sell the player until after their fixture against Tottenham on January 7th.
However, we understand that City want a move to take place as soon as the transfer window opens - ideally before their match scheduled for January 4th against Chelsea.
City believe Semenyo can quickly fit into their team plans but would like to give him as much time as possible in January to settle into a new environment.
Semenyo’s £65million clause is only valid until January 10 and City are progressing in financial and personal agreements with Semenyo already.
It is true that Liverpool have shown an interest but, so far, there is no formal contact with Bournemouth over triggering his clause or with the player’s camp about the potential conditions of a contract at Anfield.
If Liverpool do make a late move, City hope their early contact has them in a strong enough position to close it out.
