During the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last month, Maguire was shown a straight red card due to improper conduct for something he said to fourth official Matt Donohue as he made his way off the field.
The FA confirmed the charge earlier this month, saying in a statement: “Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Man Utd's Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20th.
“It's alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Harry Maguire has until April 2nd to provide a response.”
As per journalist Ben Jacobs, "Maguire argued he said his sending off was "a f*cking joke" but it was concluded, based on evidence from fourth official Matt Donohue, he stated "you are all a f*cking joke" to the officials."
Now, the 33-year-old has been handed an additional ban and a £30,000 fine as interim boss Michael Carrick learns to live without the England star for the Chelsea clash this weekend after he missed the loss against Leeds on Monday night.
Lisandro Martinez was sent off against Leeds, whilst Matthijs de Ligt is still unavailable with a back injury, which leaves United with very few options at the back.
United’s centre back pairing could be made up of 20-year-old Leny Yoro and 19-year-old Ayden Heaven for the game against The Blues as both sides attempt to grab Champions League football for next season.
United have not won any of the three games Yoro and Heaven have started together this season, conceding seven goals against Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Leeds, which will be a huge worry for Carrick and his side.
