Manchester United have presented their case to Antoine Semenyo and believe the Bournemouth forward is intrigued by how he would fit into their line-up.

United are relieved that Liverpool are not currently active in the race and hope that remains the case, having expected them to pose the strongest competition.

As things stand, that leaves United set to go head-to-head with Manchester City for the £65 million signing.

United have outlined their long-term vision to Semenyo, highlighting how his versatility makes him an ideal fit for their system.

The club continue to use their heritage and traditions as a key selling point when targeting players from lower down the Premier League hierarchy, and believe this still gives them an edge over City in that regard.

They have also detailed how they see Semenyo being used at Old Trafford, including the possibility of him fulfilling a role similar to Amad Diallo - who has been thriving in a wing-back position.

United believe Semenyo has the attributes to perform a similar role and could excel on either flank.

Manchester City, however, are making their own efforts to lure Semenyo across the city, leaning heavily on their recent success to strengthen their sales pitch.

They point to Pep Guardiola as a coach capable of developing him in a way few others can, while also offering a clear “win-now” pathway that contrasts with United’s ongoing rebuild.

City’s recent Premier League and Champions League success is being used as evidence of what Semenyo could achieve should he choose the Etihad, with the club currently sitting second in the league and well placed in European competition.

Bournemouth had hoped their release clause would not be activated during the first ten days of January, but have now begun exploring potential replacements in the market.
