In Casemiro's final game at Old Trafford, Luke Shaw opened the scoring with a cultured strike inside five minutes before Morato scored his first goal for Nottingham Forest shortly after half-time.
It wasn't long until Manchester United were back in front, though, as Matheus Cunha scored in the most controversial circumstances.
Bryan Mbeumo appeared to handle the ball in the box before seeing his deflected shot drop at the feet of Cunha, who calmly slotted his effort into the bottom right corner.
VAR reviewed the decision and suggested to the referee, Salisbury, that it should be disallowed; however, he went against the decision, telling fans inside Old Trafford that the handball was accidental.
Speaking live on Sky Sports commentary, Neville was in disbelief at the call to award a goal.
"I think that's an absolute shocker in every single way," he said.
"Honestly, that is ridiculous. The VAR has been clear: they've said it should be disallowed, he has handballed it.
"I can't believe what I have just seen, I'll be really honest."
