There are just 89 days until the new Premier League season gets underway, which is 33 days after the FIFA World Cup final. But when are the key fixtures and what happens over Christmas?

UEFA Super Cup
Europa League winners Aston Villa will meet Champions League victors Arsenal or PSG on Wednesday, 12th August at Stadion Salzburg in Austria for the UEFA Super Cup.
It will be the first UEFA club final to be played at the venue. Kick-off is at 8pm.
Community Shield
Defending Premier League champions Arsenal will face FA Cup holders Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, 16th August.
Due to a pre-booked concert by The Weeknd at Wembley Stadium, the match will take place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
When does the Premier League 2026/27 season start?
The new season gets underway on Saturday, August 22nd. This is a week later than usual to give players a longer break due to the FIFA World Cup.
When does the Premier League 2026/27 season end?
The final day is on Sunday, May 30th, 2027. As usual, all 10 Premier League games will kick off at the same time.
When are the Premier League 2026/27 fixtures announced?
The Premier League fixture list will be revealed at 10am on Friday, June 19th.
Usually, the first match takes place on a Friday, but the schedule for the opening weekend is still to be confirmed.
Fixtures in the Championship, League One and League Two will be announced at midday on Thursday, June 25th.
Will there be Boxing Day fixtures next season?
Yes. Only one Premier League game was selected for Boxing Day last season (Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle), but as December 26th 2026 falls on a Saturday, we should expect more matches to be scheduled.
To alleviate fixture congestion around the Christmas and New Year period, no two-match rounds will take place within 60 hours.
Which teams were promoted to the Premier League?
Coventry City were promoted to the Premier League after winning the Championship, with Ipswich Town also returning to the top-flight after finishing second.
Hull City finished sixth but went on to beat Middlesbrough in the Play-off final to book their place among the elite.
The trio take the place of Wolves, Burnley and West Ham who were relegated.
From next season onwards, six teams instead of four will contest the Play-offs. The format has yet to be confirmed, but there is an assumption that teams placed 3rd and 4th will qualify for the semi-finals and will face the winners of a one-game shootout between 5th v 8th, and 6th v 7th.

When do the Carabao Cup and FA Cup start?
The Carabao Cup gets underway for EFL clubs on August 7th-9th 2026, but dates for the latter stages involving Premier League clubs is to be confirmed.
FA Cup dates have yet to be announced, but the third round usually takes place in January.
When does European competition get underway?
Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, Aston Villa and Liverpool will compete in the Champions League. The league phase gets underway from September 8th-10th, with the final league stage games scheduled for January 27th, 2027.
Bournemouth and Sunderland will compete in the Europa League with Brighton booking their place in the Conference League.
The Europa League league phase takes place on September 16th-17th, with the Conference League beginning on October 15th.
Crystal Palace could also book their place in the Europa League should they beat Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final on May 27th.
When does the transfer window open and close?
The summer transfer window opens on Monday, June 15th and closes at 11pm (UK) on Tuesday, September 1st.
The winter transfer window opens on Friday, January 1st 2027, and closes at 11pm (UK) on Monday, February 1st, 2027.
