Manchester City newcomer Tijjani Reijnders made his debut for the Premier League club with a goal and an assist against Wolves, but said he can "be better".

City beat Wolves 4-0 at the Molineux, where Reijnders immediately got a spot in the starting XI from Pep Guardiola.

The Dutchman gave the assist for Erling Haaland's opener and scored to make it 2-0 following a lightning-fast counter, enough to earn his first Player of the Match award.

“Yeah, it’s a really nice start, of course, to start with a goal and assist, especially in the Premier League," said Reijnders. "It’s something you always dream about. It can be better."

"I’m always going on the pitch with a smile, I love playing football and enjoy every minute on the pitch. This is what I want to show the fans. Starting like this is unbelievable."

The 27-year-old Reijnders joined City for €55 million (£47.5m) from Milan, two years after leaving AZ for a record fee.

“The first game of the season, you don’t know what will happen or how the opponent will play," Reijnders said. "We did quite well, they put a bit of pressure on us, but we stayed calm and it’s a good 4-0 win."

“It’s a lot of learning, of course. You get a new view on how to play football. For me, it’s about quickly adapting. I’m trying to do my best all the time. Definitely, with the intensity in training and the team we have, you will definitely get better.”

Reijnders aims for Premier League title

City continue their Premier League campaign at home, where they'll meet Tottenham next Saturday. The Citizens are looking to reclaim the Premier League title after relinquishing it to Liverpool for the first time in five years.

Reijnders re-emphasised that City are looking to win an eleventh league title.

“Yes, the goal is to win trophies,” he said. “Last season City didn’t win the league, and that is our main goal. We all know what we want. We are really eager to reach that goal.

“Big names were at this club. I think it was more of a proud feeling to join one of the biggest clubs in the world. That’s what I want to show, that I am proud to play for this club, especially with a lot of love and fun.”
