As they chase a top four finish, Slot concedes at this stage of the season results are now the priority.
City go to Anfield on the back of their EFL Cup semi-final win against Newcastle last night.
And Slot said this morning: "I mainly remember the game we played there and outplayed for large parts in the first half, so this is another moment to see where we are in the development of this team.
"We know the importance of a result. It's the end phase of the season so results matter more and it's a very good team that beat Newcastle not even with their startets, so that tells you with the game we played against them what a force Man City still is and always will be."
City thumped Liverpool 3-0 in November at the Etihad in a result that for Slot still stings.
Seeking revenge?
He continued: "Everyone has good players but us too and now we can play against them now in our own stadium and fans. We have shown apart from that first half against City and Palace that we can compete with every team. We haven't found the consistency for the results but we have shown against...all the names, we can compete.
"It also helped City our goal was disallowed and they got a penalty after VAR interference. Conceding a set piece didn't help either and we want to show a different side of things."
For the Reds, Slot will be seeking to continue their momentum after thumping Newcastle 4-1 last weekend. The result has Liverpool sitting in sixth place, eight points away from second-place City.
Slot said, "I think we have played much better than that but it was a good last hour, first 30 not what we wanted it to be. First 30, lot of set pieces, didn't play much, took time, then it is difficult to find momentum and tempo and pace as we had last hour. It wasn't our best of the season, we have played many games good but just not in both boxes.
"But we were good in both boxes against Newcastle and now people notice. Both boxes have not been good enough throughout 95% of the time. Now all of a sudden it is the performance and the result that is different."
Jacquet welcome
Meanwhile, Slot was asked about a busy final few days of the winter market for Liverpool. While no senior player was added, Liverpool signed young defender Jeremy Jacquet before loaning him back to Rennes for the remainder of the season.
"Very pleasing because he is a very big talent and maybe even more than a talent but we speak cause of his age," said Slot.
"We weren't the only ones interested in him so a big compliment to those who are signing the players. Another example of the model we use at this club: young, talented at the start of their careers, and can improve and help us for short and definitely long term.
"We have signed a lot of those recently and the mid to long-term future is in as very good place."
Liverpool also added Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Wien and Mor Talla Ndiaye from Senegal's Amitie FC.
Slot continued: "We never panic, it's always long term and thought about for a long time and not by just one person. We know Virgil van Dijk won't play for 10 years but he has a year left, maybe longer at us, he stays fit and what a compliment that is to him he can play every three days.
"Hopefully he can stay fit for multiple years but this club is not stupid. We do know somewhere in the upcoming years there is life after Virgil but that is for every position. We don't think about short-term only, it is mid to long as well."
Jones blocked
Slot also addressed Inter Milan's late attempt to prise away midfielder Curtis Jones. The Nerazzurri made a loan-to-buy attempt, but Liverpool refused to do business.
The manager explained: "I think what you've seen..he has played a lot of minutes and unlucky in the sense that midfield is the only line we haven't had injuries, but we kept because we have players but we need players in these positions. And the moment you start to need midfielders in different positions, the line gets smaller and smaller.
"We kept him, his situation hasn't changed to us, he is one of 16 outfield players avialable we have with two young players inb Nyoni and Ngumoha, so it would be strange if we let anyone go."
However, when pressed about Jones' contract situation, Slot snapped: "Interesting, someone else asks contracts questions, talks are taking place in other places. The moment we have news, we share it here. We are all aware he has 18 months left, so that is all I can say."
Wirtz now living up to billing
Before concluding, Slot was happier talking up the form of £125m man Florian Wirtz. The Germany attacker is now beginning to show the form displayed with Bayer Leverkusen.
And with a blockbuster against City awaiting them on Sunday, Slot said of Wirtz: "I think you saw first and foremost, full credit to the player on the pitch and the gym, putting in the work. If someone is struggling physically at the start, you have to keep them in to improve and he was an example of that.
"He didn't improve that much on the ball because he has always been special but he has the connections with his team-mates. Off the ball is the biggest improvement with him and that combo makes you ready for the PL. The PL is about both on and off the ball."
