The reverse fixture just two months ago saw Liverpool draw 1-1 after Nordi Mukiele's own goal secured a point for the Reds.
The loss to Manchester City at the weekend was the club’s eighth in the Premier League this season, twice as many as last season when they lifted the title.
Sunderland's unbeaten record
Slot will be hoping to bounce back against the Black Cats, who are the only Premier League team yet to lose at home this term. He first spoke on Sunderland's excellent season so far and their impressive home record.
"Sunderland have had a very good season, and their record at home is very good as well, and they've already played City and Arsenal at home.
"There are more teams that are having a very good season, Arsenal one, Villa impressive, Brentford impressive, but Sunderland also impressive.
"It's definitely an accomplishment if you come up to the Premier League and do as well as they have."
Can Liverpool reach the Champions League?
Liverpool sit sixth in the Premier League and fans are beginning to worry about Champions League qualification as the side fail to climb into the top four. Questions next turned to how the side can reach their goal of Europe's elite competition.
"Close to perfection (is needed) because of points we are behind. It's different when you're four points behind a team that's 18th as they normally don't pick up as many as a fourth or fifth-placed team.
"We have to win a lot and we haven't done that a lot this season so that has to be better.
"Margins are very small as seven minutes from time we were five points behind City, and now we are 11 behind."
Liverpool's bad luck with signings
Finally, Slot moved on from qualification and touched upon the club's luck with new signings. This comes after Giovanni Leoni tore his ACL at the start of the season and future summer arrival Jeremy Jacquet picked up what may be a season-ending injury this week.
"It feels like that, that is for sure. Even if we sign a player and he's not even playing for us, he gets injured. But the moment you think it's just bad luck then it comes to you as well. So we need to keep away from that and focus on improving performances.
"The amount of times we are conceded late on is more than usual, so what's the reason for that.
"I can definitely say we haven't been lucky, that is true. But is it bad luck or who we are? We will find out over rest of season."
