The defending Premier League champions host Nottingham Forest on Saturday as they sit in eighth place on the table after five defeats already this season.
But Slot insisted this morning there is still a long way to go.
"The best way to judge a league table is 38 games and the next best after 19 games," he began. "Let's see where we are then.
"Variation in form isn't just about new signings. The biggest thing we are facing now is match fitness.
"We were hoping Alex (Isak) could play more for Sweden but he was a yellow away from suspension so it's understandable they didn't play him in the second game.
"We have five natural defenders available for seven games in 22 days, I don't see anyone coming back before that. That is something we knew that it was hard when you bring in players."
Liverpool prepared for Dyche difference
On facing a Forest team now led by new manager Sean Dyche, Slot says Liverpool will be well prepared.
He stated, "The playing style of Sean Dyche closer to Nuno than Ange (Postecoglou).
"It's probably going to be a similar type of game compared to the last time we played them."
Slot conceded they will be short of numbers for the clash due to some injuries suffered during international week.
He said, "(Andrew) Robertson will be with us today. Alisson trained last week and this week so he will be able to play if things work out today.
"We do have some issues after the international break.
"Conor Bradley is unable to play, Florian Wirtz unable to play. That is far from ideal."
World Cup fallout
On Dominik Szoboszlai's World Cup frustration, Slot revealed he had spoken to the Hungary captain after their dramatic qualifying defeat to the Republic of Ireland.
"We did talk about it, we spoke to Milos (Kerkez) as well. It was a big disappointment being so close to play-off games and then going out in extra time of extra time which was fair as there were two subs in that time.
"It's really hard that you concede especially because in the other side you see Robbo (Andrew Robertson) what it means when you do qualify when you haven't for so long."
Indeed, on Robertson's tribute to Diogo Jota after Scotland's amazing win against Denmark, Slot also stated: "We are always judged, sometimes fair sometimes unfair. I saw the interview live and I know that it is an issue for us which is I think completely normal. At these moments in time I think about how must it feel for his wife and children as it's so so so much harder for them than us.
"We miss the player and the person, that is completely clear. We are playing Forest and last season we were 1-0 down there and it took him a minute to score an equaliser.
"He played his part in helping us come from behind last season in games. We miss him as a person as well."
Buying a centre-back?
Slot was also asked about his plans for the January market - particularly whether there will be a new attempt to prise Marc Guehi away from Crystal Palace.
The Dutchman admitted being surprised by the line of questioning and replied: "I wasn't expecting to talk about signings. There are so many games to be played before that and the position we are in, it's the last thing on my mind. It's not a topic for me at all at the moment.
"We have at the moment of time three centre-backs, maybe Ryan (Gravenberch) and Wataru (Endo) who can play there.
"We have other positions there which are bit more of an issue."
He also said: "Joe Gomez has played two times 90 minutes in 2025 so if we want to keep him available longer it's maybe a risk to play him seven times in 22 days. He missed training yesterday but we are expecting him to train today.
"Maybe one or two players have to play in positions they normally won't do."
Asked about reports of Liverpool offering a new contract to Ibrahima Konate, Slot added: "My answer will be the one you expect. Do I have to say it?"
