Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has spoken to the media as he looks to bounce back against Burnley.

After an EFL Cup exit in midweek to fourth-tier Grimsby Town, United welcome newly-promoted Burnley to Old Trafford for a clash that could potentially be make or break for Amorim, whose job is under threat after a winless start to the season.

Mainoo should stay

Firstly, Amorim opened up on midfielder Kobbie Mainoo who has been trying to force a loan away from the club this summer but has been denied so far.

"Until it is official I cannot say much. I want Kobbie to stay. He needs to fight for his place. I understand players who don't play are disappointed but everyone will have same opportunities to play. You have to fight during the week.”

Amorim often feels like quitting

Amorim also revealed his frustration with his side and admits that sometimes he wants to quit which will not surprise many supporters who saw his distress on the sidelines against Grimsby in midweek.

"Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years. Sometimes I love to be with my players, sometimes I don't want to be with them. So, again, I need to improve on that. It's going to be hard. But now I'm good with the next one."

Amorim sometimes hates his players

After the Grimsby affair, Amorim ripped into his side who he said were not nearly good enough. He commented on his comments post-match and revealed that he sometimes hates his players in a very honest rant from the Portuguese tactician.

"I know that when I speak these things. Guys, to be really honest with you guys, every time that we have or have in the future one defeat like that, I'm going to be like that.

“I'm going to say that sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I want to defend my players. This is my way of doing things and I'm going to be like that.

“And I felt that in that moment I was so frustrated and annoyed. And I know, again, that you have a lot of experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media, to be more constant, to be more calm. I'm not going to be like that."

What annoyed Amorim about the Grimsby performance?

Finally he spoke on what annoyed him about his team’s performance against Grimsby and highlighted the smaller details which quite often destory a team’s performance.

"I think that is the hardest part of the defeat; sometimes it is not the result, it is the way we lost that game or drew that game. It is the small things: fighting for the ball, running."
