In the absence of injured Newcastle top scorer Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes dragged an early strike narrowly wide as the Magpies started brightly.
The visitors soon played their way into the contest, unsettling Eddie Howe’s side with a high press that eventually helped yield the game’s opener after 32 minutes.
Without a goal contribution in seven PL matches after starting his Bournemouth career with three in three, Rayan provided the assist with a direct run beyond Lewis Hall, allowing him to pull the ball across goal for Marcus Tavernier to tap home.
Neat interplay almost resulted in a second soon after, as Alex Scott cut back for Evanilson, who failed to make strong contact for what would have been a certain goal.

That goal set up an intriguing finale, and to the home fans’ dismay, it was Bournemouth who struck with five minutes to play when Tavernier stood a ball up for Evanilson to knock down while under pressure, allowing Adrien Truffert to turn in his first goal for the club from close range.
That suckerpunch ultimately saw the Magpies fall to a fifth defeat in six home league matches, having now won just one of their last seven games in all competitions (D1, L5).
Sitting in 14th, a European push looks unlikely, while Bournemouth’s hopes receive a significant boost, climbing to eighth after a club-record eighth successive away league game without defeat (W4, D4).
