Chelsea have spent big again this summer, bringing in the likes of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens in attack which has displaced many players including Jackson who has deemed surplus to requirements by manager Enzo Maresca.
Jackson missed the goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday due to a red card suspension picked up in the 2-0 defeat at St James’ Park at the end of last season.
He may not return to the side again, however, as Maresca prioritises many other members of the squad who are eager to take his spot.
Jackson has played a key role under both Maresca and former boss Mauricio Pochettino in his two years at Stamford Bridge but it now seems like his time is up. After a deal with Bayern Munich collapsed, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenburg has revealed that Villa have made the 24-year-old their main target.
“Aston Villa have added Nicolas #Jackson to their shortlist and are closely monitoring his situation. Talks have already taken place. #AVFC
“Several clubs are interested. FC Bayern have also gathered information, but a move to Munich is not happening.
“The 24 y/o versatile striker is still on the verge of leaving #CFC. Aston Villa now there.”
Twenty-four goals in 65 games is a decent tally for the top-flight, and with six goals in 16 games in other competitions, Jackson could be the perfect partner for Villa striker Ollie Watkins, who has been without a strike partner since John Duran left the club last season.
