Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an encouraging update on Kai Havertz, describing the midfielder as a “different specimen” as he continues to work towards regaining full fitness.
The 26-year-old has been out since mid-August with a knee injury sustained in training, just a few days after Arsenal’s opening day 1-0 win over Man United.
Havertz isn’t currently expected to make his return to action since the end of November, but Arteta has said he could be back in “weeks” rather than “months”.
“With Kai, we know that it will be months with him. I don’t know if it can be weeks, you never know because this is Kai and he’s a different specimen,” the boss told reporters ahead of their League Cup clash with Port Vale.
“We really miss him. Hopefully, he will be back, and back for the long term as well, so it is very important to look after that knee. So far, he’s progressing pretty well.”
The Gunners are next in action against Newcastle on Sunday, 28th September.
