Defender: Trent Alexander-Arnold vs Fulham (H) - 5.2 points

Liverpool’s defence continues to shine, with a leading seven clean sheets this season and just eight goals conceded in this time. They are among the favourites to keep a clean sheet at home to Fulham this weekend, with goalkeeper Alisson back in full training.

Full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a key fantasy option in the heart of their defence, given that he carries the most attacking threat. His 25 key passes and seven big chances created ranks him third among defenders for creativity this season.

Alexander-Arnold has plenty of goal threat too, with 13 shots on goal. He is involved in free-kicks and corners, which provides an important route to points. He has three assists this season with two of these coming in their last Premier League game.

Midfielder: Cole Palmer vs Brentford (H) - 8.1 points

A plum home game for Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is enough to knock Mohamed Salah off his perch as the best midfield and captain pick for FPL Gameweek 16. Chelsea come into this game in fine form, winning four consecutive games, and scoring 14 goals in this time.

Palmer has had a hand in 43% of these Chelsea goals, with four goals and two assists. Three of these goals have come from the penalty spot, with only Liverpool and Bournemouth receiving more spot-kicks this season.

Palmer’s explosivity makes him an attractive captain pick, with five double-digit hauls this season. In the last four gameweeks, Palmer sits top for shots (17) and shots on target (11) and second for big chances (7), while he’s also a key creator, with 11 key passes.

Chelsea and Palmer are prolific in home games and they come up against a Brentford defence struggling on the road. They have picked up just one point, with a league-high 156 shots conceded on their goal and 14 goals conceded.

Forward: Erling Haaland vs Manchester United (H) - 7.8 points

Erling Haaland is a relative differential in FPL, with his 42% ownership the lowest it has been all season, with his side providing just one win and one draw in the last six gameweeks. Haaland continues to deliver, with two goals and one assist, but it’s below his usual high standards.

However, an AI prediction of 7.8 points, the third of any player, suggests that Haaland may not be far away from another haul, having produced 13 goals and one assist already this season. He has plenty of routes to points given that he’s also on penalties.

Haaland has the pedigree in the Manchester derby, with four goals and two assists across two games at the Etihad. He’s had 14 shots on goal, including five big chances in the last four gameweeks. He has underperformed his expected goals metric of 1.87 in this spell.

Hidden Gem: Heung-min Son vs Southampton (A) - 5.9 points

Spurs have one of the fixtures of the weekend when they travel to bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Sunday evening. Spurs are capable of scoring heavily, with 3+ goals in almost half of their games in this campaign, including on the road.

Captain Heung-min Son remains the most attractive option from the Spurs attack, having provided a goal and an assist in the last four gameweeks. He’s managed two 90-minute appearances in this time and we now know that he’s also first choice on penalties.

The main appeal of this fixture is Southampton’s poor defensive form, with just one clean sheet all season and a huge 31 goals conceded. They’ve conceded ten goals in their last four, including five to Chelsea and three to Liverpool in their recent visits.
