Match report

Having picked up a measly two points from their opening 13 PL games, Wolves went into the contest as one of three sides across Europe’s top-five leagues yet to register a league win this season.

Unsurprisingly, it was the visitors who started on the front foot at Molineux, with Jesus and Dan Ndoye directing a pair of headers off target when well-placed in the box.

Keen to build on a dominant opening half-hour, the Tricky Trees continued to probe for a breakthrough with HT looming.

However, for all their possession in the final third, clear-cut chances came at a premium for Sean Dyche’s men, as Jesus saw a close-range header ruled out for an offside against Ndoye.

Grateful to still be on level terms, Wolves improved after the restart, and they should have taken the lead, only for Jhon Arias to head wastefully wide from eight yards.

That narrow escape sparked the visitors back into life, as Neco Williams saw a curled free-kick superbly thwarted by Sam Johnstone, who also denied Omari Hutchinson shortly after.

Undeterred, Forest’s pressure finally paid dividends in the 72nd minute when Hutchinson’s inviting delivery was met by Jesus, who beat Johnston to the ball to head home his first-ever PL goal.

Staring down the barrel of an eighth consecutive defeat, Rob Edwards’ side looked to up the ante in pursuit of a late equaliser.

Substitute Matheus Mané scuffed an effort across the face of goal from a promising position, before Marshall Munetsi saw a tame strike comfortably saved by Matz Sels.

Ultimately, it was Forest who held firm during the closing stages to secure a third win in four PL matches, while Wolves’ winless league run on home soil extends to nine games (D2, L7).
