Rangers boss Russell Martin ended his wait to win a Scottish Premiership match in dramatic fashion as Max Aarons struck in stoppage time to beat Livingston 2-1 on Sunday.
Martin has been faced with fans demanding his sacking after failing to win his first five league games in charge, allied to disappointing European defeats.
More dropped points were on the cards at Almondvale after Mo Sylla cancelled out James Tavernier's opener for the visitors.
However, Aarons, one of a number of much-criticised signings since Martin took charge in June, fired in from a corner deep into added time to bring some relief to the Rangers support.
The Glasgow giants cut the gap on city rivals Celtic to seven points and sit nine behind early leaders Hearts.
"The players are fighting so hard for each other and the coaching staff and I think we got what we deserved in the end," said Martin.
"This job means the world to all of us that are here. We want to win.
"I'm just so happy for the players today, they're growing all the time and now we have to do it more consistently."
Rangers should have been out of sight by half-time after arguably their best 45 minutes under the former Southampton manager.
Bojan Miovski blazed a glorious chance to open the scoring over the bar on 12 minutes.
Captain Tavernier did break the deadlock soon after with an acrobatic finish from Oliver Antman's cross.
However, Tavernier then saw a penalty saved by Jerome Prior to give Livie hope.
Livingston levelled 22 minutes from time when Sylla was left unmarked to head in Adam Montgomery's inswinging cross.
The goal unleashed more fury from the travelling support towards Martin.
However, there was a late twist as Livingston failed to deal with a corner and Aarons swept in from Nico Raskin's flick-on.
