Keeping it simple
Flick through the history books back to February 2024 and you’ll notice that Celtic have scored three or more goals in seven of their last eight meetings with Motherwell.
Times change and every match is unique, but that shows the gulf in class, historically, between the two sides.
They’ve played twice in 2026 already, with Celtic running out 3-2 and 3-1 winners, which confirms their superiority – to the point that odds of 4/7 on them to prevail on Sunday really do represent strong value.
Motherwell lost their last three Premiership games in September with a goal difference of -6, which sits alongside a 2-7 loss to Freiburg over two Europa Conference League legs and a 3-3 draw with St Mirren… in short, Alfred Johansson’s side can be exposed defensively.
Fans of such things will know that Celtic lead the Scottish Premiership for xG created – a whopping 19.2 in seven games, no less – so we have to expect them to put Motherwell to the sword, even accounting for the international break.
Nygren, Hogh, Duran, Yang… the Bhoys have an abundance of attacking talent that can take full advantage on Sunday.

Free spirits
Motherwell have become one of the more interesting teams in the Scottish Premiership.
They appointed Jens Berthel Askou as head coach and he was allowed to implement a very continental European style tactically – lots of high presses, diagonal passes and taking risks defensively.
Johansson, Askou’s successor after he left for Toulouse, is cut from a similar cloth, so that perhaps explains why the ‘Well are the third-highest goalscorers in the Premiership.
