Premiership football returns to Ibrox when Rangers face Motherwell, and the home team owe their fans three points.

Derek McInnes watched his new-look Gers side suffer a painful 2-1 defeat to Hibs when last here. Since that body blow, Rangers have been eliminated from both the Europa League and the Conference League.

The locals take confidence from a stunning 5-1 win over St Mirren in the League Cup, a battling 1-0 victory at Pittodrie, and a 2-1 midweek win over Falkirk.

Motherwell are keen to spoil the party, and won 3-2 the last time they visited Govan. The Steelmen arrive in good form, and will be popular with lovers of an upset.

Result - Rangers win

After bagging three wins from three selections on Wednesday at the Falkirk Stadium, I plan on keeping the profits rolling home at Ibrox.

My first Rangers v Motherwell prediction is on the home team to win in front of a packed stadium and an electric atmosphere. You can back Rangers as a single, but it’ll work best in your Saturday football accumulators and bet builders.

Rangers take confidence from back-to-back away wins over Aberdeen on Sunday, and Falkirk on Wednesday. A double from striker Laurence Shankland sank a spirited Bairns, with the former Hearts targetman also making the difference at Pittodrie. Confidence is returning to the squad following a draw at Tannadice and that home defeat to Hibs.

Motherwell are unbeaten in four games, and sit above their opponents in the league. The Steelmen have two wins and a pair of draws on the board. Alfred Johansson’s team beat 10-man Dundee United 3-0 at Fir Park on Wednesday, but face a much tougher test here.

The visitors impressed at home, but haven’t been as convincing on their travels. Motherwell are winless in their previous four away games in all competitions. That drought includes a six-goal draw in Paisley last weekend, following an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to lowly Stenhousemuir in the League Cup 2nd round.

Saturday pairs two well-matched teams who have served up some memorable games at this venue over the years. I expect another thriller, but the crowd will make all the difference here. After hammering St Mirren 5-1 at this iconic stadium, I’m taking a home win.

Tip: Rangers win @ 4/9 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If Rangers score more goals than Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday, your bet wins, and you’ll beat the bookies.

Total goals - Over 2.5

Moving on to the second of my Rangers v Motherwell betting predictions, I highlight the total goals market.

Saturday’s match producing more than two goals from both teams combined gets the nod.

The same bet landed when the Steelmen last visited Govan, winning 3-2 back in April. Going back further, it’s worth knowing that over 2.5 goals paid out in four of the previous five, a run stretching back to March 2024.

Backing three or more goals was a smart approach in midweek, with Falkirk v Rangers finishing with three goals, and Motherwell v Dundee United also giving up three goals. But there’s more to consider.

You would’ve made a solid profit backing over 2.5 goals in each of Motherwell’s last four games in all competitions. In addition to that win over Dundee United, they drew 3-3 with St Mirren, lost 4-1 at Freiburg, and 3-1 when hosting the Germans in North Lanarkshire.

Rangers haven’t been scoring as many goals as McInnes would’ve liked, but they are creating chances. The home team had 16 shots at goal when beating Falkirk, 20 at Pittodrie, and 25 when thumping St Mirren here.

Back over 2.5 goals, and the winning team and scorers don’t matter. As long as these rivals share more than two goals, your bet wins.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals @ 8/13 (bet365)

Bet explanation: You’ll boost your betting balance if Rangers v Motherwell ends with more than two goals scored.

Score or assist - Curtis

My third and final pick from Glasgow, and I’m trusting Rangers winger Findlay Curtis to score or assist on Saturday.

Everyone connected to Rangers has high hopes for Curtis. The 20-year-old Scotland cap spent a chunk of last season on loan at Kilmarnock, picking up some much-needed game time and match sharpness.

Since returning to his parent club, Curtis has made nine appearances. He’s yet to score, but has looked like a bright spark on the wing, using his pace to get the Gers into attacking areas and providing ammunition for the strikers.

Curtis got 80 minutes against Falkirk before being replaced by summer arrival Daisuke Yokota. Wednesday was a match McInnes needed to win, and the fact that he started Curtis demonstrates the level of trust he has in the promising player.

The Rangers number 52 is expected to flourish under the manager. He played 40 times last season for Rangers, Kilmarnock, and Scotland, scoring nine goals. Curtis is full of confidence and running. He’ll be encouraged by the support and will play an important role.

Tip: Curtis to score or assist @ 11/10 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If Curtis scores or provides an assist for a teammate to score, your bet wins.
