It might not have always been plain sailing for Rangers under Derek McInnes this term, but a fantastic September – five games, five wins, four clean sheets – has triggered a renewal of optimism.
The Gers beat old rivals Celtic twice – once in the Scottish Premiership, once in the League Cup – without conceding a goal during that fine run, so the evidence suggests that McInnes has finally been able to stamp his identity onto his players.

And while Rangers probably didn't want the international break, you imagine Kilmarnock absolutely cherished it. They prop up the Premiership table, having won just one of their seven games and conceding 15 goals in the process.
We have to expect a rudimentary home win on Saturday, don’t we?

Easy does it?
There’s no reason to expect anything other than a comfortable Rangers victory at Ibrox; Kilmarnock certainly haven’t shown any suggestion that they can mix it with the best in the business in Scotland.
They were trounced 5-1 by Celtic earlier in the campaign and shipped four against both St Johnstone and Dundee United.
Kilmarnock might have tightened up since, keeping two clean sheets and drawing 1-1 with Hearts in their last three, so some kind of tactical change seems to have paid dividends.
But Hearts missed three big chances in that particular meeting, creating 1.92 of non-penalty xG, and it’s unlikely that Rangers, full of confidence, will spurn such opportunities.
The problem for punters is that they’re priced at 1/8, so their expected supremacy is no surprise. But we can still back them in a roundabout fashion by selecting them to score two, three or four goals – that’s the sort of haul you’d expect from a dominant home favourite.
Tip: Rangers 2-4 Goals @ 4/7 (Bet365)
Explanation: Our bet wins if Rangers score two, three or four goals here.
Following the numbers
So bullish can we be about Rangers’ chances here that even if they score four times, the Under 4.5 Goals line is still very much active.
Kilmarnock have scored just two goals in their last five Premiership outings… and one of those was an own goal! Yes, the Killies achieved the remarkable feat last time of drawing 1-1 with Hearts despite not having a single shot on target.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ defensive play in September was nothing short of outstanding, conceding just a solitary goal in five league outings and also keeping a clean sheet against Celtic in the League Cup.
It’s hard to imagine Kilmarnock playing much of a part in a goal-laden contest, based on what we’ve seen recently.
Tip: Under 4.5 Goals @ 1/2 (Bet365)
Explanation: Our bet lands if there are four goals or fewer in the game.
A happy hunting ground
For readers who prefer slightly longer odds selections, we’ve been able to package up our general assessment of this game into a potentially meatier return.
It would be a shock for the ages if Kilmarnock were to win this game. The visitors are priced at 14/1, which is an implied probability of just 6.7% - that is indicative of them being able to spoil our Rangers/draw double chance selection.
As for the match goals element, we’ve written at length about that already. It would be a surprise if Rangers weren’t to net at least twice here, while Kilmarnock’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal will not aid them against a side that has conceded just once in their last five Premiership outings.
Tip: Rangers/Draw Double Chance & Match Goals: 2-4 @ 4/5 (Bet365)
Explanation: Our bet lands if Rangers win or draw and there are two, three or four goals in the game.
