Al-Sadd confirmed on Thursday the signing of Roberto Mancini as their new head coach, with the Italian manager agreeing to a contract for the next two and a half seasons.

Mancini is back in action. After coaching the Saudi Arabia national team and working as a consultant at Sampdoria, the Italian manager has now joined the Qatari side Al-Sadd.

He replaces Sergio Alegre, and his main goal will be to close the gap to first place and lead the team to defend their league title.

Widely respected in European and world football, Roberto Mancini has won 14 trophies in his career, including three Serie A titles, one Premier League title, and a European Championship.
