Martinez, Inter's second goalkeeper, reportedly had a tragic accident on Tuesday morning in Fenegro, in the Como region, not far from Appiano Gentile, the Nerazzurri team's headquarters.
Shortly before 22:00 BST local time, while driving his car, the Spaniard allegedly accidentally ran over an 81-year-old man who was in his electric wheelchair.
The impact was fatal: despite the immediate intervention of the emergency services, the elderly man died instantly.
A helicopter from Como, an ambulance from the Red Cross of Saronno and the Cantù Carabinieri were on the scene to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident.
Martinez, 27, was unhurt but in a severe state of shock. The road was temporarily closed to allow the investigation and rescue operations.
