Palermo have announced Filippo Inzaghi as their new coach on a two-year contract starting July 1st, with an option for a third year in the event of promotion to Serie A. Promotion specialist Inzaghi is now expected to guide the club to the top flight.

"Inzaghi is welcomed to Palermo by the City Football Group, president Mirri and the entire Rosanero family," read the official statement from the Sicilian club.

Inzaghi, who was born in Piacenza 51 years ago, was one of the best strikers of his generation, scoring 291 goals with club teams (his 11 years at AC Milan, his longest stint) and 25 with the Italian national team.

He started coaching in the 2014/2015 season, on the Milan bench. At the helm of Venezia, Benevento and Pisa, he achieved three promotions from Serie B to Serie A. Palermo is asking him for a fourth such achievement.
