Runners-up at the 2024 Copa América, Colombia have enjoyed a string of positive results in recent years and therefore arrived at the World Cup with high expectations. It seems their optimism was well-placed, as Colombia pipped runners-up Portugal to the number one spot in Group K.
Colombia's campaign has so far produced two wins and a draw, beating Uzbekistan (3-1) and Congo (1-0) ahead of a goalless stalemate with Portugal (0-0). Their performance levels have actually been at a higher level than those three scorelines suggest, but the absence of a clinical striker has prevented them from adding further goals.

More details on Colombia v Ghana
Ghana reached the knockout stages by the skin of their teeth. The Black Stars narrowly beat Panama in their opener (1-0), earned an impressive draw with England (0-0) and suffered a disappointing defeat against Croatia (2-1). The Ghanaians could spring a surprise, but they are not the favourites heading into this tie.

Colombia the favourites
Colombia drew 0-0 with Portugal in their last outing to secure top spot in Group K, but could have easily beaten the former European champions. Against a strong side full of top players, the result was tight. Against Ghana, the outcome is expected to be different.
Unbeaten in six matches since losing to France (3-1) in a friendly, Colombia have now recorded four wins and a draw. Their strong performances against Uzbekistan, Congo and Portugal make the South Americans favourites to record another victory this weekend.
Against Uzbekistan, Colombia were clearly superior. Against Congo, they were once again the better side. They only needed a point against Portugal and therefore perhaps took their foot off the gas, but a victory was well within reach.
During their meetings with England and Croatia, Ghana proved they can absorb pressure before hitting teams on the counter-attack. Therefore, the Black Stars could potentially cause an upset.
However, the statistics suggest Colombia will emerge triumphant within the regulation 90 minutes.
Prediction: Colombia to win: 1/2 (bet365)
Explanation: This bet will land if Colombia are leading at the end of regulation time.

James, Arias and Luis Díaz to shine
Colombia have been one of the most enjoyable teams to watch at this World Cup. Boasting a number of talented players who are able to carve open defences, Nestor Lorenzo's side are creating plenty of chances and just need to be more clinical in order to widen their margin of victory.
They recorded 15 shots in their opening match. Only four of these were on target, but, most importantly, three found their way into Uzbekistan's net. They fired 20 shots against Congo, with nine of these hitting the target including Daniel Muñoz's winner. Neither team were on the scoresheet in their final group game, but Colombia did manage 24 shots and force Portuguese 'keeper Diogo Costa into six saves.
The stats show that Colombia are getting plenty of shots away, even though they're not managing to score too many goals. With a place in the last sixteen on the line, expect Colombia to once again record a high number of goal attempts.
Having averaged almost 20 shots per match during the group stages, it seems reasonable to assume that Colombia will fire at least 15 efforts on goal in this encounter.
Prediction: Colombia – Over 14.5 Shots: 5/6 (bet365)
Explanation: This bet will land if Colombia register 15 or more shots during the regulation 90 minutes.

Two goals or more
Our final prediction for this keenly anticipated encounter takes us to the goals market. Ghana have only scored twice and have been heavily relying on their defence in order to progress in this World Cup. Against England, the Ghanaians valiantly held on for a draw amidst plenty of pressure from their opponents.
Although Colombia have only scored four goals to press, they look threatening every time they go forward. Always ready to attack, we shouldn't expect Colombia to defend a narrow lead or let the match drift towards extra-time.
We know that knockout matches tend to be tense, where a goal can change the whole dynamic. If either team scores, the other will be compelled to attack. This could lead to the scoreline being levelled up, or the team in the lead exploiting gaps left by their attack-minded opponents.
There have already been two or more goals in several Round of 32 contests – expect the same outcome in this one.
Prediction: Over 1.5 Goals: 2/5 (bet365)
Explanation: This bet will land if two or more goals are scored during the regulation 90 minutes, regardless of the full-time result.
