Argentina will play their final group-stage match against Jordan this Sunday (28th) at 03:00 BST at the Dallas Stadium, already with their minds on the World Cup knockout stage.

The reigning champions are already guaranteed top spot in Group J, which should see coach Lionel Scaloni rotate his squad after wins over Algeria and Austria.

This means that even the inclusion of Lionel Messi, birthday boy this week and the all-time top scorer in World Cup history, is not guaranteed.

Argentina will take to the pitch already knowing their opponent for the round of 16 match in Miami on 3 July, after Group H is decided on Friday.

They will face the group runners-up, Uruguay, Cape Verde or even European champions Spain, if Marcelo Bielsa's side manage to beat them. Jordan have lost their first two matches and are already out of the World Cup.

Argentina to win by two goals

Scaloni has not confirmed how many or which players will be rested against Jordan, but made it clear after the win over Austria last Monday that he plans to field a changed starting XI.

"Now we'll analyse the situation. The idea is to give an opportunity to most of the players who deserve to play. Whenever the match allows, we'll do that," he said.

This match certainly allows it. The result makes no difference to Argentina. It matters more to Jordan, who, despite being eliminated, are still looking to earn their first ever World Cup point.

Argentina's technical quality should still shine through. Their substitutes include players like Nico Paz, a standout in Italy's Serie A last season with Como, or Julián Álvarez and Giuliano Simeone, the Atlético Madrid duo.

Even if the final score is not so important, individually, whoever gets on the pitch will be motivated to impress and give Scaloni something to think about for the rest of the World Cup.

Tip: Argentina handicap @5/8

Bet explanation: The bet will win if Argentina win by at least two goals

Over 2.5 goals

The gulf in class between the two sides should naturally create opportunities. Argentina had the best attack in the South American qualifiers, with 31 goals in 18 rounds, and have scored five in two World Cup matches.

Indeed, the scorer of all five of those goals may not be on the pitch, but as much as Messi makes it look easy, scoring in a World Cup match is a rare and special achievement.

Any player given a chance by Scaloni against Jordan will fight until the final whistle to make their mark on the competition's history, and we can't rule out Jordan themselves contributing to the scoreline.

Even Argentina's first-choice defence hasn't been totally secure in the opening rounds, and the Asians have found the net against Austria and Algeria.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals @ 61/100

Bet explanation: The bet will win if there are at least three goals in the match

Alvarez to score

Messi grabbed all the headlines, deservedly, for the two goals that saw him overtake Miroslav Klose (16) as the men's World Cup top scorer and Brazil's Marta (17), including the women's tournament.

But Álvarez also made the news by saying he wants to leave Atlético Madrid, after being one of the best players last season, with 10 goals in 15 Champions League matches.

The World Cup is not new to him. Álvarez was among the candidates for best young player in Qatar after scoring four times, including in the 3-0 semi-final win over Croatia.

In total, he has 14 goals in 53 appearances for the national team and, in Messi's absence, is well placed to take on much of the attacking responsibility for the reigning champions.

Tip: Julian Alvarez to score at any time @ 1/1

Bet explanation: The bet will win if Julian Alvarez scores at least one goal
