Flashscore brings you the best moments of the tournament in our daily World Cup feature. Here’s what happened on day 22!
Key moments
Spain shone brightly - a superb performance from the team led by Luis de la Fuente against Austria. Mikel Oyarzábal scored twice, and Pedro Porro added another for La Roja, who will face Portugal in the round of 16.
Highlighting just one individual performance would be unfair: Spain delivered an outstanding team display. It’s one of the best performances from the squad in a long time. Fullbacks Porro and Marc Cucurella played almost like wing-backs, constantly pushing into the Austrian box.
Lamine Yamal once again impressed with his dribbling, directness, and speed. Álex Baena also put in a strong performance, and Oyarzábal confirmed his excellent form with a brace.

Player of the day
Spain will now face a Portuguese side that, despite its struggles, remains dangerous. Cristiano Ronaldo led his team’s comeback against Croatia.
The Croatians took the lead through a goal from Perisic. CR7 equalised from the penalty spot, and Goncalo Ramos scored the winner for Roberto Martínez’s men.
Ronaldo is the player of the day. He stepped up when Portugal needed him most and now faces the challenge of taking on Spain.
Ronaldo was also named MVP of the match against Croatia.
Goal of the day
Mikel Oyarzabal is establishing himself as Spain’s main striker. After a brilliant season with Real Sociedad, Oyarzábal has become a key player for Luis de la Fuente: his movement allows him to link up with the wingers and he has a real eye for goal.
The Real Sociedad forward scored a superb goal to make it 1-0 for Spain against Austria. He finished off a low, first-time shot from a cross by Cucurella, beating the Austrian goalkeeper to open the scoring.
Best of social media
The embrace between Cristiano and Luka Modric, two legends of world football, went viral on social media. The Croatian and the Portuguese were teammates at Real Madrid, winning four Champions League titles together.
Modric leaves the World Cup empty-handed and with many questions to answer.
