It's an exciting time to follow professional golf as we enter a busy summer period.

Fans have already watched Rory McIlroy land the Masters in April before Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship last month. Now it's the turn of the always popular US Open.

With more than $4 million (£2.96m) paid to the winner, another star-studded field is in attendance. Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania provides the setting; the action begins on Thursday and is broadcast live on Sky Sports.

US Open 2025 betting odds

Traders working at the biggest online bookmakers have had their say on the most likely winner of this summer's renewal.

They have created a book of live betting odds, allowing all members and fans to wager on the result. Will you follow the experts and bet on one of the pre-competition favourites, or go against the grain and trust an outsider at a nice price?

Here are the latest betting odds available now at bet365:

Scottie Scheffler @ 13/5 (bet365)

Bryson DeChambeau @ 7/1 (bet365)

Rory McIlroy @ 10/1 (bet365)

Jon Rahm @ 11/1 (bet365)

Xander Schauffele @ 20/1 (bet365)

Collin Morikawa @ 22/1 (bet365)

Ludvig Aberg @ 25/1 (bet365)

Patrick Cantlay @ 25/1 (bet365)

Joaquin Niemann @ 28/1 (bet365)

US Open predictions

It wouldn't be difficult to make a strong case for any one of up to 20 players winning this year's US Open in Pennsylvania. Traders have picked the usual suspects, and it's no surprise to see Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler near the top after winning Majors already this term. Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau was also going to be popular.

I advise backing two players: one of the favourites who should challenge for the trophy and an outsider at big odds, who is capable of performing better than his price suggests.

After going close on each of the last two years, it makes sense to stick with former US Open champion Rory McIlroy. He hasn't won this gong since 2011 but has the aggregate top par, carding 268 and -16 when winning the trophy 14 years ago.

Picks

Tip: Rory McIlroy to win @ 10/1 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If McIlroy finishes in pole position, your bet wins.

Now for our second pick at a bigger price. We're taking a chance on Sepp Straka at an appealing 35/1, and you can bet each way at 1/5 the odds, a place 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8.

The odds available on the world number five are bigger than I expected, and they'll drop quickly if he has a strong Thursday. He enjoyed a brief break before returning to place third behind Scheffler at the Memorial Tournament last month, meaning betters get a man in good form.

Tip: Sepp Straka each way @ 35/1 (bet365)

Bet explanation: You're placing two bets here, one on Straka to win at 35/1 and another on him to place in the top eight at a fifth of the odds.

Markets and specials

There are many ways to bet on the 2025 US Open other than finding the winner. I've listed some of the most popular options below, adding a brief explanation.

Win: The most straightforward is the win market. Pick a player to end on top, and if they deliver, you land the odds.

Traders expect American Scottie Scheffler to win, and he's the 13/5 favourite at bet356. Having collected the previous major, could he be about to land a double?

Each Way: If you expect a player to perform well, but aren't convinced he will win, you can take advantage of the each way betting where you're covered for a 1/5 the odds eight places.

Golf fans playing the each way markets often shoot for a player with an attractive price that's good enough to win the title, but should at least finish in the top five. Someone like Tommy Fleetwood at 30/1 is ideal for each way betting.

First-Round Leader: Name the player who will explode out of the traps and top the leaderboard at the conclusion of the opening day of play. Your pick doesn't need to win the US Open; just be in first place after one round.

Who do you expect to be at the top of the tree after 18 holes? Rory McIlroy will want to lay down a marker by getting off to a fast start. The Northern Irishman is 20/1 to be the first-round leader, and that isn't easy to ignore.

Others worth a look include Jon Rahm at 22/1 and Shane Lowry at 40/1. This market gives you an opportunity to make a profit after day one.

Top-Three Finish: Pick a player to win, and if they finish in the top three you get the returns. Unlike the each way betting, just one stake is required here. Please note you won't win more if your pick ends in first, as the bet covers all three places.

It doesn't matter where your pick ends in the top three as long as they occupy one of the medal positions following the final count. Last year's champion, Bryson DeChambeau, is 11/4 to be first, second, or third. You'll get Justin Thomas at 12/1 in the same market.

Top European: Choose this market, and you must predict which European-born player will finish highest on the leaderboard. You're only betting against other Europeans here.

Knowing he features prominently in the outright betting market, it's no surprise to learn Rory McIlroy is the favourite in the top European betting market. Rory is 10/3 at bet365, and that'll do a job as a single, although it'll also pull its weight in your weekend accumulators.

Others to look out for include Jon Rahm @ 15/4 (bet365), Tommy Fleetwood at 10/1, and Shane Lowry, who also trades at odds of 10/1 to out-score the Europeans in the United States.
