Three women will compete at the World Darts Championship for the first time in history. In 2019, Fallon Sherrock became the first-ever female darts player to win a match on the grand stage. She is also participating this year, while Lisa Ashton has already competed three times and Beau Greaves will make her debut at Ally Pally.

PDC sensation Fellon Sherrock

The Queen of the Palace, the nickname 28-year-old Fallon Sherrock earned after her first appearance at the 2020 World Championships.

On December 17, 2019, she made her history-making debut by beating Ted Evetts 3-2 - but it didn't stop there. She surprised friend and foe Mensur Suljovic by beating him 3-1 in the second round.

At the time, the Austrian was ranked number eleven in the world. Six days later the fairy tale ended, as Chris Dobey too strong for the English debutant, beating her 4-2.

Two years later she returned to the stage but was defeated in the first round 3-2 by Steve Beaton.

This year, however, it was much more difficult for Sherrock to qualify. The number one and two of the women's rankings qualified, but Sherrock was not one of those.

Beau Greaves' massive advance knocked Sherrock off second place, but due to a decision by the PDC, the Queen of the Palace was given another shot to live up to her name.

The darts organisation made another place available for the winner of the World Matchplay for women, with Sherrock managing to come out victorious.

Sherrock will take on number 42-ranked Ricky Evans on December 20. Should she overcome that hurdle, number 13 Joe Cullen awaits.

Veteran Lisa Ashton

The 52-year-old Lisa Ashton is the oldest participant of the three ladies involved this year. She's also the most experienced in World Championship throwing, with Ashton having already pitched three times at Alexandra Palace.

In 2018, the Lancashire Rose made her debut against Jan Dekker, losing 3-1. It was not only her debut, together with Anastasia Dobromyslova she became one of the first women to ever participate in a World Championships.

Lisa Ashton played at one other major televised tournament this year - the Grand Slam of Darts, although she was eliminated in the group stage. Joe Cullen was too strong, beating her 5-3, while Ritchie Edhouse won 5-2 and Michael Smith defeated the her 5-3.

She will play against compatriot Ryan Meikle in the first round on Saturday, who qualified by winning a Pro Tour. If she wins, Raymond van Barneveld awaits in the second round.

Newcomer Beau Greaves

The only tournament debutant of the trio is the young up-and-comer, 18-year-old Beau Greaves

Beau 'n' Arrow seemed nowhere near participating in the World Championships until she overcame dartitis and started throwing again in the summer.

Greaves won eight Women's Series tournaments on her way to the big stage and not only that, she did it by winning 64 games in a row.

Due to her absence, Ashton and Sherrock looked nailed on as number one and two in the women's rankings to qualify, but Greaves managed to sneak past Sherrock on that list.

In the final of the Women's Series, Greaves won with an average of 108. She took second place from Sherrock and shockingly qualified for the World Championships.

The young woman from Doncaster is therefore confident with her current form, making her a feared opponent for many at Ally Pally. Irishman William O'Connor qualified by winning a Pro Tour and is Greaves' first opponent.

They will compete against each other on Friday night. Should she win, Gabriel Clemens awaits in the next round.
