Alexander Ovechkin scored his 1,000th career combined goal during Sunday's loss to the Avalanche, while the Nashville Predators continue to extend their winning streak with a close win over the Chicago Blackhawks!

Avalanche 3-2 Capitals

Ovechkin scored his 1,000th career combined goal (regular season + play-offs) during a power play to tie things up in the third period, which sent the game into overtime. He now joins Wayne Gretzky (1,016) as the only two players to accomplish the feat.

But Colorado's Brock Nelson scored his 32nd goal of the season to win it as the Avs improved to 46-13-10.

Meanwhile, the Caps remain on the outside of the play-off picture looking in as they fell to 35-27-9, sitting five points behind the Red Wings for the second spot in the Eastern Conference Wild Card.

Predators 3-2 Blackhawks

After the Blackhawks took a 2-1 lead in the second, Nashville's veteran Steven Stamkos scored his 34th of the season to send it to overtime. Teammate Filip Forsberg would socre his 32nd, also his second of the game, to give Nashville the win.

Forsberg led the way with three points, also recording an assist on Stamkos' goal, as the Preds improved to 33-28-9, riding a four-game win streak.

Jets 3-2 Rangers

After Gabriel Vilardi (27) put the Jets up 2-1 in the second on the power play, New York's Mika Zibanejad (30) would score a power play goal of his own to tie it all up.

But after a scoreless third and overtime, it was Kyle Connor and Gabriel Vilardi who scored during the shootout as the Jets improved to 29-29-12.

Meanwhile, the Rangers remain the worst team in the East with a 28-33-9 record.

Hurricanes 5-1 Penguins

The Canes would put up four straight goals across the first and second period that put the game out of reach early on. Seth Jarvis led the way with a goal and two assists, making it his fourth three-point game this season.

Carolina improved to an Eastern Conference-best 45-19-6 and have now won three straight, and seven of their last 10. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh dropped to 35-19-16.

Islanders 1-0 Blue Jackets

Bo Horvat scored his 25th goal of the season just 1:25 into the game - and that was that. Ilya Sorokin picked up his seventh shutout of the season, 28th of his career, after stopping all 26 of Columbus' shots.

The Islanders improved to 40-26-5 as they overtook the Detroit Red Wings for the second spot in the Eastern Conference Wild Card. This is now their second 40-win season in the past four years.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets fell to 37-22-11.

Golden Knights 3-2 Stars

Dallas got out to a 2-1 lead before the end of the first period. But a power play goal from Ivan Barbashev (20) in the second and one from Reilly Smith (12) in the third rallied the Golden Knights back for the win.

The Stars had just 15 shots on goal as they fell to 43-16-11. Vegas improved to 32-25-14.

Flames 4-3 Lightning

Tampa rallied after the Flames took a 3-1 lead that sent the game into overtime. But Calgary's Ryan Strome (5) scored just 26 seconds into OT to give the Flames their third straight win as they improved to 29-34-7.

Tampa fell to 43-21-5.

Ducks 6-5 Sabres

Anaheim went up 4-2 heading into the third period, but the Sabres rallied with three straight goals of their own to take a 5-4 lead. It wasn't until Anaheim's Mikael Granlund scored his 14th goal of the season to tie it up 5-5 with less than two minutes to go until the game went into overtime.

Troy Terry would play hero for the Ducks, scoring his 16th goal of the season, and the second of the game, to win it in OT as Anaheim improved to 39-27-4.

Buffalo, who were on a four-game winning streak, dropped just their second game in the last 10 as they fell to 44-20-7 on the year, sitting just one point (95) behind the Carolina Hurricanes (96) for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Mammoth 4-3 Kings
