Home wins were the theme on Tuesday night in the National Hockey League (NHL), as only one team managed to win on the road. Overtime occurred in Toronto, where the Maple Leafs came out on top.

Facing the St. Louis Blues, the Leafs found themselves behind less than two minutes in. Nathan Walker converted his chance to put the guests in front.

It did not take Toronto too long to tie things up, as Jake McCabe levelled the score a few minutes later. Then, midway through the second period, Steve Lorentz completed the comeback with his second of the year.

Once again, the lead would not last long. Dalibor Dvorsky restored parity in the contest with a power play marker. Despite getting two more man-advantage situations, the Blues failed to capitalize a second time.

The game went into overtime, where William Nylander became the Buds' hero with his goal with 54 seconds left. His finish around the goaltender's crease helped the Leafs to come out on top 3-2 in front of their fans.

The win snapped a five-game losing skid for the Maple Leafs, who are still near the foot of the Eastern Conference standings. As for the Blues, they are 14th in the West, falling for the third match in a row.

Elsewhere, the Tampa Bay Lightning earned a solid 5-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Jake Guentzel scored a hat-trick for the Bolts, who jumped into a playoff spot in the East with the result.

The defeat was just the fifth time the Devils lost in regulation time this year.

It was another victory for the Detroit Red Wings, who topped the visiting Seattle Kraken 4-2. They had to do it the hard way, though, as they fell behind just before the first intermission on a power play. But the Wings needed just two minutes and five seconds after the restart to go in front through Lucas Raymond and Nate Danielson

Ryker Evans tied things up for the Kraken as the game was tied at two. Unfortunately for the guests, that was the best it got. Emmitt Finnie made the most of a power play to put Detroit back in front just a few moments later. This time, the Red Wings held onto the lead, scoring a fourth at the end to claim the win.

The New York Islanders grabbed a road victory with a 3-2 success over the Dallas Stars. It was an even bigger win for the Winnipeg Jets, who topped the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 thanks to five different players scoring.

In Chicago, Connor Bedard netted his second career NHL hat-trick for the Chicago Blackhawks in their 5-2 defeat of the Calgary Flames. The centre scored what proved to be the winner at 4:57 in the third, which was his second in the game at that point. Then, at the end, he scored an empty-netter to make it three goals in the contest.
