After several rumours concerning Max Verstappen and a possible departure of George Russell to Mercedes, it seems that the Englishman is finally extending his contract with the Silver Arrows.
He is expected to stay on. Following several weeks of rumours suggesting the arrival of Max Verstappen at Mercedes, it would now appear that Russell has been extended.
According to the Daily Mail, the number 63 driver is in the process of signing a contract worth £30 million a year for several more seasons.
Negotiations are said to have"accelerated in recent weeks", under pressure from Mercedes, which wants to conclude the extension of its star driver before the summer break. This will take place after the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
According to the British newspaper, "all the main points have been agreed" between the two parties. Details relating to sponsors remain to be finalised.
Russell is doing well this season. The Englishman won the Canadian Grand Prix and has 157 points in the drivers' standings. This puts him in fourth place ahead of Charles Leclerc (139 pts) and behind Verstappen (185).
