Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo became the first men's player in history to score at six different World Cup tournaments with the opener against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old received some heavy criticism for a largely anonymous performance in Portugal’s World Cup opener against DR Congo.

In dire need of a win following their 1-1 draw, it took just six minutes for Ronaldo to score the opener against Uzbekistan.

Joao Cancelo swung in a lovely ball, finding Ronaldo at the near post, who then tucked it away with an instinctive first-time finish.

After failing to net in his previous 10 games at major finals, he has finally got on the scoresheet for his ninth World Cup goal - equalling Eusebio's record.

It was also his 144th international goal ‌in his 230th appearance, both of which are records in men’s internationals.
