Live updates

19:00 GMT - That brings an end to our coverage of the day's Premier League coverage. Thanks for tuning in and we'll be back for some Champions League action on Tuesday!

18:55 GMT - Everton boss David Moyes said the defensive heroics of a clean sheet ensured Everton could "nick the game".

"It was magnificent. It's been a pretty difficult week for us but we got over that," he told Sky Sports.

"Coming here is never easy. The boys started well and we took confidence from it. We hit the post right away. Overall, I'm really pleased with the performance.

"We want to make more chances. We didn't create loads. The clean sheet is why we could nick the game.

"They made a mistake. Dwight (McNeil) got a shot on target and the centre forward is following it up."

18:45 GMT - Prior to this game, the last time Aston Villa lost at home in any competition was a Premier League defeat by Crystal Palace on August 31st, 2025.

18:40 GMT - Everton's James Garner labelled the Toffees' victory at Villa Park an "amazing" display of hard work.

"It was amazing," Garner told Sky Sports. "We worked so hard, they are such a great team, but the lads grinded it out today.

"We tried to fight what they are good at, which is playing through the middle.

"We tried to block passing lanes and force it way. When you come away at places like this, you might only get one or two chances.

"We were in a sticky patch and we needed to get out of it. It was an amazing performance from the lads."

18:25 GMT - FULL-TIME! Thierno Barry's lone goal is the winner as Everton slide past Aston Villa 1-0, meaning the hosts fail to close the gap to leaders Arsenal.

17:57 GMT - After scoring just once in his first 18 Premier League appearances, Thierno Barry has since scored in three of his last four.

17:49 GMT - GOAL! The deadlock is broken and the first goal this Sunday goes to Everton and Thierno Barry!

Pau Torres gives the ball away, then Emiliano Martinez can't handle Dwight McNeil's shot and Barry is there to brilliantly clip in the rebound over the scrambling goalkeeper.

17:34 GMT - Of the eight Premier League games that Aston Villa have failed to win this season (D4 L4), five were goalless at half-time, including four of their last five.

17:18 GMT - HALF-TIME! Goalless at the break, but there have been chances at both ends. Villa and Everton have hit the woodwork once each and the visitors had a goal disallowed for an offside.

HT stats
HT statsOpta by Stats Perform

17:15 GMT - Only Dominik Szoboszlai (11) and Matheus Cunha (10) have recorded more shots on target from outside the box than Morgan Rogers (9) in the Premier League this season.

17:03 GMT - NO GOAL! Jake O'Brien thinks he has headed Everton in front, but the goal is chalked off as Harrison Armstrong interferes from an offside position.

16:30 GMT - Game on at Villa Park - follow the match here

16:15 GMT - Next up, our attention switches to Aston Villa versus Everton. A win for the hosts will lift them above Manchester City into second, but can former player Jack Grealish spoil the party?

16:10 GMT - Wolves have failed to score in 11 of their 22 games - no team has failed to do so more often in the Premier League this season.

15:54 GMT - FULL-TIME! A drab encounter at Molineux ends goalless. Wolves make it four games unbeaten in the Premier League and five in all competitions.

15:30 GMT - Still very little to report in terms of action at Molineux with around 15 minutes to go.

Elsewhere, the starting teams are out for Aston Villa's match against Everton, which kicks off at 16:30 GMT.

Lineups
LineupsFlashscore

14:54 GMT - Newcastle's pass completion rate in the first half against Wolves (94%) was the highest by any team in a half of football in the Premier League without recording a shot on target (on record since 2003/04).

14:47 GMT - HALF-TIME! Still waiting for this one to really get going as there are no goals at Molineux at the break.

HT stats
HT statsOpta by Stats Perform

14:25 GMT - This is the eighth time this season that Wolves have gone through the opening 20 minutes of a Premier League match without attempting a shot - only Burnley (9) have done so on more occasions.

14:00 GMT - Visitors Newcastle get the ball rolling at Molineux - follow the match here

13:25 GMT - Hosts Wolves may be at the bottom and 15 points from safety, but their fortunes have improved over recent games and are now four without defeat in all competitions.

12:55 GMT - Time for some team news for this afternoon's opener at Molineux. Wolves make one change, while Nick Woltemade is in for Newcastle.

Saturday, January 17th

20:12 GMT - We're wrapping up there for the night, see you back here tomorrow!

20:11 GMT - Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche was less convinced about the handball penalty shout for Arsenal in the second half.

"I think if these start to get given we've all got to leave it," Dyche told TNT Sports.

"I think that's ridiculous. We've got to be careful with those.

"I thought you were going to say our one (penalty claim in the first half). Right on the line of the box, they say it's outside. I think he's already in full flight, he gets pulled, he's going in the box, he's going to get there.

"You may as well cancel football if you're going to give that (referring to the handball by Ola Aina). The rules have to be careful. You know what they should be looking at, people feigning injury. That's the new diving. I wouldn't worry about the handballs. Cancel football if that handball is given."

20:08 GMT - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was seething about his side not getting a penalty against Forest in the first half.

"We obviously wanted to win the game, we knew the game was going to be very tough and very close as well from the way that they play," he told BBC Sport.

"We created four big, big, big chances and a clear penalty, but we weren't able to win the game.

"I've just seen the replays, I think it's a clear intention to clear the ball inside and it's a clear penalty so I don't understand why it's not been given.

"We could've been better, but as well, this is happening all around the league for every single team. We have to improve and be better, especially when we create four big chances, you have to put them away."

19:43 GMT - Some stats as we await comments from both sides. Bear with us, we're scraping the barrel a bit here...

Arsenal have had consecutive 0-0 draws in the Premier League for the first time since their opening two games of the 2012/13 campaign.

There have been seven Premier League games without a single shot on target in the first half this season, with Nottingham Forest involved in three of them (also against Man City and Wolves).

19:30 GMT - We'll have some reaction for you when it drops.

19:29 GMT - Arsenal are now seven points clear at the top, although Aston Villa can cut that gap down to four with a win tomorrow.

19:01 GMT - Still not a huge amount to report at the City Ground, although Forest keeper Sels has made a couple of decent saves in this second half.

It's 0-0 with 20 minutes to go for Arsenal to capitalise on Manchester City's loss earlier.

18:28 GMT - Arsenal had eight shots in the first half - their most without managing a single effort on target in the opening half of a Premier League match since Mikel Arteta's first game in charge against Bournemouth in December 2019 (nine).

18:20 GMT - HALF-TIME! A quiet first half at the City Ground as Forest and Arsenal go in all square.

18:25 GMT - Spurs manager Thomas Frank has taken the blame for his side's loss to West Ham.

"We seem to be in the perfect storm at the moment," he told Sky Sports.

"A last-minute defeat, and when everyone feels they have given everything, including the fans, and you get a sucker punch, it's unbelievably tough to take for them, the players and me. I can promise it's extremely tough for me as well.

"I've probably had better times, it's probably not the best time of course. But I understand, I'm the man in charge. So the blame will go to me. That's fair, no problem in that sense."

18:21 GMT - There's half-time between Forest and Arsenal and it remains 0-0, with the hosts giving a good account of themselves so far.

18:03 GMT - Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has reflected on his first Premier League win with the Blues.

"It's about winning. I've said that since I've come in," he admitted to Sky Sports.

"We didn't play the free-flowing football that I wanted us to in the end, but we got the job done, and that's a really, really pleasing result for the players."

18:00 GMT - Arne Slot was left frustrated after Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley.

"Of course, I am very disappointed about the result. It says a lot about ball possession and turning possession into chance creation," he said to Sky Sports.

"Even for our standards, we've added even more ball possession than we usually have. This time we were able to create a lot, but not for the first time this season we hardly conceded a chance, but we did concede a goal."

17:57 GMT - Leeds boss Daniel Farke described his side's win over Fulham as the best of their season so far.

"The best win of the season, we played an in-form Fulham side. Important three points and a fantastic win. We were relentless until the end," he told Sky Sports.

"For me, the best win of the season so far. We didn't allow them to show their quality in offence. We kept going, and we were relentless, and we had belief and it was an important three points for us."

17:53 GMT - Nothing to separate the two sides after the opening 20 minutes at the City Ground.

17:30 GMT - We're nearly underway at the City Ground - stay tuned for all the updates!

17:18 GMT - Some stats from this afternoon's fixtures:

Tottenham Hotspur have attempted 21 shots against West Ham, their highest total in a single match in the Premier League this season - likewise, the Hammers attempted 17 shots, their highest total this season.

Fulham have failed to win any of their last six matches when conceding first in the Premier League, since a victory over Brentford on 20th September 2025.

Leeds now have a record of W5, D1, L1 when scoring the opening goal at home in the Premier League this season.

15:12 GMT - Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted his side deserved to lose today against rivals Man Utd:

"The better team won. They had something we didn't have. We weren't at the level required to win this game. In many departments, we weren't there," he revealed to Sky Sports.

"They were better. They had an energy we didn't have."

15:10 GMT - Michael Carrick was delighted with his side's win in the Manchester derby:

"I don't want to get carried away with all the DNA kind of thing. We wanted to play well and put things into the game that we thought we help that," he told Sky Sports.

"We certainly wanted to be good defensively as a team. We felt we had a threat in transition. When we did have the ball I thought we looked dangerous.

"I couldn't ask for any more. The boys took everything on tactically and dealt with it emotionally."
