The festive period is here, which means we are approaching the midway point of the Premier League campaign.

Talking points have been aplenty, with Arsenal topping the table at Christmas, Sunderland being the surprise package following promotion and Wolves being impressively bad with just two points at the bottom.

As we come up to a time of reflection, it's a point for Flashscore to also look back at the best performers to comprise the Premier League Team of the 2025/26 season so far.

Note: Selected players are based on Flashscore's internal ratings system and candidates must have played 760 minutes, which is around half of the playing time available. Selection focuses on rating over specific position.

Goalkeeper

Robin Roefs (Sunderland) - 7.1

Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs has been a key part of why sixth-placed Sunderland have made an impressive start to life back in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has kept six clean sheets so far and his 77.6 per cent save percentage only trails Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez.

Defenders

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace) - 7.3

Marc Guehi is impressing in his last season at Crystal Palace with excellent displays at both ends of the pitch.

The England international has scored two goals this term, with his most recent coming late on in a 2-1 win at Fulham.

Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth) - 7.4

Argentina's Marcos Senesi is another player who is seeking a change of club and he has impressed approaching the midway point.

The Bournemouth defender is second only behind Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson for defensive contributions, including clearances, interceptions, blocks and tackles.

Dan Ballard (Sunderland) - 7.4

Another part of Sunderland's spine is Dan Ballard, who has been no-nonsense at the back for the Black Cats.

Ballard's best moment in the first half came against his former side Arsenal in November, when he opened the scoring in a competitive 2-2 draw.

Gabriel (Arsenal) - 7.5

The imposing Gabriel looked unstoppable for league leaders Arsenal until a hamstring injury during November's international break hampered his flow.

The Brazilian has kept seven clean sheets in 11 appearances to help the Gunners race up the ladder in the first stages of the campaign.

Midfielders

Phil Foden (Manchester City) - 7.5

Phil Foden and Manchester City took a little while to get going, but his form has sparkled heading into the festive period.

Foden has seven goals in 15 appearances so far, as his performances exploded with back-to-back two-goal outings against Leeds and Fulham a few weeks ago.

Declan Rice (Arsenal) - 7.4

All-rounder Declan Rice has been everything Arsenal have needed him to be this season, chipping in with goals, assists and defensive contributions.

The 26-year-old has featured in all 17 games and has two goals and three assists to his name.

Granit Xhaka (Sunderland) - 7.2

The final and arguably most integral piece of Sunderland's machine is Granit Xhaka, who has seriously impressed since making the switch from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

Xhaka's career experience and leadership have shone through in their start to the season, but he has four assists and a goal too.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 7.5

Bruno Fernandes has – as expected – been running the show for Manchester United and has racked up strong numbers despite a deeper midfield role.

The Portuguese has 12 goal contributions so far and no player in the division has more than his seven assists to this point.

Forwards

Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) - 7.3

Bukayo Saka has been quietly going about his business at Arsenal as they head the league table over Christmas.

Saka's delivery in particular has caused havoc on numerous occasions and has been a key weapon for Mikel Arteta's team in tough games.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 7.4

The mercurial Erling Haaland would have secured his place in the team months ago with the ridiculous scoring numbers he has been putting up.

The Norway star has 19 goals in 17 outings and it's hard to see him stopping as City look to contest Arsenal in the title chase.
