St Helens captain James Roby feels he has been vindicated in his decision to hold off hanging up his boots.

The 37-year-old has represented the Saints since 2004 and will skipper the Merseyside outfit once again this coming season.

St Helens will compete against Penrith Panthers in Australia next month for the World Club Challenge, serving as a curtain-raiser.

Roby is relishing the occasion. "It’s not been able to go ahead for the last few years, so it's a great reward for us and a great opportunity," he's quoted as saying by Serious About Rugby League.

"(It is) a really good challenge for us one that most people don’t get unless on international duty.

“They are a great team and have won two (titles) in a row, but we have won four in a row. We are confident in our own ability.

"It's great for me before I hang up the boots, it's great for the town to go out there and really get the name of the town as a brand.”

St Helens face Penrith Panthers on February 18th before starting their Super League defence against Castleford on the 26th.
