Shamrock Rovers suffered their fourth Europa Conference League defeat in Group F on Thursday night at the hands of Sweden's Djurgarden.

The match started off fairly evenly as both sides looked comfortable on the ball and carved out a couple of chances.

But it was Djurgarden who made good on their creativity as Magnus Eriksson tucked away a precise shot in the 19th minute via an intelligent Kalle Holmberg assist.

Rovers weren't too dismayed by the home side taking the lead, though, as they linked up well for the remainder of the half and perhaps should have equalised through Rory Gaffney.

In terms of dictating play, Djurgarden started the second period a little stronger than they ended the first.

By the hour mark, the home side seemingly aimed to slow the tempo down but Rovers continued to press high up the pitch.

The Irish champions enjoyed a healthy amount of possession, playing for pride, but were unable to carve out many clear-cut chances.

Djurgarden stood firm and by the 80th minute had shut the game down, successfully ushering out a 1-0 win.
