Two-time champion Neil Robertson beat Chris Wakelin to claim the last remaining quarter-final spot at a Masters tournament that has remarkably seen all of the first-round matches finish 6-2.

Wednesday's match was finely poised at 2-2 at the interval after each of Robertson's winning frames were followed by a response from Wakelin. However, the Australian came roaring out from the interlude with back-to-back century breaks of 116 and 135 to take control at 4-2.

There was a flicker of hope for Wakelin as he fought admirably in the seventh with just the pink and the black remaining and two snookers required to overhaul his opponent. But though he was able to squeeze one of those out of Robertson, the second eluded him as Wakelin went 5-2 down with no more room for error.

Any nerves that tight frame may have caused Robertson were not to be seen, as he calmly rattled off a break of 102 to make it three century breaks in the final four frames to book a quarter-final against Kyren Wilson.

"With Australia winning the Ashes I didn't know if I was going to be get booed or cheered coming down the stairs," 2012 and 2022 champion Robertson joked.

"I can't thank you guys enough. Brilliant atmosphere. This is the best event in terms of atmosphere we play in.

"It's an amazing arena. The crowd is always brilliant every single time, it's packed out for every match. If you can't get inspired by this then you're probably doing the wrong thing.

"I'm really privileged to be able to do it for so long."

On the incredible run of scores in the first round, Robertson told BBC Sport"I wasn't even thinking about winning the match, I was thinking just win it 6-2.

"I didn't know if someone in the audience had maybe had a pound on all the matches being the same scoreline or something. It is amazing. I hope I have made someone a multi-millionaire. I have never seen anything like that before."

The other quarter-finals will see John Higgins take on Xintong Zhao before Judd Trump faces Mark Allen on Thursday, while on Friday there is an all-Chinese affair involving Yize Wu up against Guodong Xiao, after which Robertson and Wilson wrap up the final-eight action.
