Judd Trump beat Hossein Vafaei 10-5 on Sunday to progress to the second round of the World Snooker Championship.

Trump lead 6-3 overnight, and in truth was rarely trouble when the pair resumed proceedings at the Crucible. After Vafaei had made it 6-4, Trump won three consectutives frames to put himself on the brink, eventually conceding one further frame before wrapping up victory.

Trump will play Tom Ford in the next round after Ford saw off Ricky Walden 10-6.

"It was a tough draw, Hossein is a great player and I think in the first session he would have felt hard done to at 6-3," Trump told the BBC. "He potted a lot of good balls but I was just able to clear up every time. I knew it was an important start.

"I knew I would have to play well and solid. It has been a good season and I felt confident even with the draw. I wanted to be tested in that first game. Two years ago I went on to reach the final after beating him."

"Hopefully I can bring my best as the tournament progresses," the Englishman added.

For his part, it seems Vafaei is not planning on returning to the Crucible for future tournaments after being left unimpressed with conditions.

"Everything's so bad - if you ask me if I want to come back here, I would tell you no way," said Vafaei.

"Forget the history, you want to go somewhere really nice as a player. You walk round the Crucible and it smells really bad. You go to other countries, and everything is shiny. But here it's completely different.

"The practice room - do you see anything special? I feel like I'm practising in a garage."

In Sunday's other matches, Jak Jones beat Anda Zhang 10-4, while in the final match of the day Stephen Maguire beat Ali Carter 10-7.
