Clara Tauson won a terrific first set but ended up losing to the world number seven at the Italian Open.
The Danish tennis player Clara Tauson delivered one of her greatest performances for a long time, but it was not enough to pull off a surprise in the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome.
In the round of 16 at the Italian Open, Tauson won the first set against the seventh-seeded Russian, Mirra Andreeva, but ended up losing 7-5, 3-6, 2-6.
It's the third time in 2025 that Tauson has lost to the up-and-coming 18-year-old Russian youngster, who has already won two tournaments this year and is ranked third on the season and ranked seventh in the world.
The first two times Tauson had no chance, but this time she gave her opponent a severe fight in a meeting that lasted two hours and 36 minutes.
