The history of tournaments played in Poland dates back to 1995 and the golden years were in the first decade of the 21st century, when the biggest stars came to Warsaw thanks to the high prize money.
Among those who won in the capital at that time were American Venus Williams (2004), Belgians Justine Henin (2005 and 2007) and Kim Clijsters (2006) and Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo (2003).
For several years, Poland hosted two tournaments per season, with the second being held in Sopot.
After 2007, WTA tournaments in Poland were held less regularly and in different cities, and their ranking dropped. The event returned to Warsaw in 2022 after 12 years.
In last year's edition of the event, Swiatek fell in the quarter-finals.
This year, she improved her result considerably, becoming the first Polish woman to reach the final of a WTA tournament in her country and then the first of the red and white to win the title of such an event on home soil. In the final, she beat Germany's Siegemund 6-0, 6-1.
