14:51 BST - Sixth seed Taylor Fritz is untroubled in his opener, beating lucky loser Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 to head into round two.

On Centre Court, Iga Swiatek has been taken to a deciding set by Taylor Townsend and will be looking to avoid an upset and early exit.

13:29 BST - Time for some action on Centre Court as Iga Swiatek gets set to start her title defence against the United States' Taylor Townsend.

Swiatek was imperious in last year's final, serving up a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Amanda Anisimova, who won her first-round match earlier today.

12:31 BST - A British winner at last! Katie Swan stops a miserable rot for the home favourites as she gets past Irina Begu 6-4, 6-2 to move into the second round.

12:16 BST - The misery continues for Britain as Katie Boulter is beaten 6-4, 6-2 on Court Three by Tyra Caterina Grant.

The Brits are now 0-11 to start this year's Wimbledon.

12:14 BST - Last year's runner-up Amanda Anisimova is off to a winning start with a routine 6-3, 6-2 victory over qualifier Lina Gjorcheska.

The American is the first winner on day two.

10:26 BST - In the day's early matches, Katie Boulter will look to stop Britain's losing slide when she plays qualifier Tyra Caterina Grant.

Boulter is a former British number one and is currently second behind the already-withdrawn Emma Raducanu.

10:18 BST - The opening day was extremely unkind to British tennis, with a record 10 home players experiencing defeat.

It came after Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper were forced out of the tournament due to injury.

Reigning champion Iga Swiatek opens her defence against Taylor Townsend and French Open winner Alexander Zverev is also in action against Alexander Blockx, among notable ties.
