Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler (#31) has beaten world number two Michael van Gerwen 8-5 to win the Bahrain Masters.

Speaking after claiming his first PDC senior title, 'The Nuke' said: "I'm happy to win, I played well yesterday and I've played well again tonight

"No-one would probably believe me, but I've not thrown a dart since the World (Darts Championship) final.

"Michael is one of the very best and I'm happy to win on my debut. It has been an unbelievable week."

Nine-darter

En route to the final, Littler hit a nine-darter to start his quarter-final match with Nathan Aspinall (#4) before a 116 checkout to end it.

Speaking afterward, the 16-year-old said: "I'm just glad to win, I think I played really well.

"It's good to get (a nine-darter) on TV - hopefully I hit a few more!"

The only other player to hit a nine-darter in a World Series was the legendary Phil Taylor.

"I just take it game by game," Littler added. "If I win, I win, if I lose my next game, it is what it is."

The youngster faced Gerwyn Price (#5) in the semi-finals and beat him 7-3 to meet Van Gerwen.

'I'll get him'

Speaking after defeat to Littler in the final, Van Gerwen said: "Luke had a fantastic performance, everyone knows what he is capable of.

"Let him grow, let him do his thing."

The world number two then dwelled on his own 'disappointing' performance before saying "you win some, you lose some".

"I'll get him, don't worry," he then said of Littler, with a jovial smirk on his face.
