Harriet Dart had a few weeks of rest after her exhausting US Open campaign in which she survived four consecutive three-set matches en route to the second round. The Brit knocked out two straight-set wins here in Beijing and qualified for the main draw while playing in only her second tournament outing.
Qu Yihan is a teenager who barely has any professional experience under her belt. The 17-year-old has spent most of the calendar year competing in junior tournaments, leading to a title at J300 Beijing in September, a quarterfinal at Wimbledon and a top-20 breakthrough.
