Hubert Hurkacz looks to extend hard-court revival at Lorenzo Musetti’s expense

Match News & Form

Lorenzo Musetti appeared to be coming through the physical struggles that have cost him several tight battles since he returned from injury during the US Open Series. His title run in Lyon two weeks ago, which included back-to-back three-set wins, was an encouraging sign. Just as things were looking up, though, he was outlasted once again, this time by Arthur Fery in the second round in Vienna last week. That defeat took some of the shine off the momentum he had built in Lyon, where he claimed his first title since 2022.

Hubert Hurkacz can relate to Musetti’s struggles this year, having also faced plenty of problems with his physical conditioning. To his credit, he has firmly put those issues behind him. His consistently high level on hard courts since the start of the Asian swing, match after match and week after week, is solid proof that he is on the right track back towards the form that once took him as high as No. 6 in the rankings.

A runner-up finish in Chengdu, a semi-final in Beijing, a last-16 run in Shanghai and a second-round showing in Basel last week have brought him back inside the top 30. Now he needs to keep that momentum going to push towards a return to the top 20, and the Paris Masters offers a big opportunity. Having missed the tournament entirely last year, he has plenty of ranking points to gain if he can sustain the excellent level of recent weeks.

Head-to-Head: Lorenzo Musetti leads 3-2

Musetti holds the overall edge, but two of his three wins came on clay. Hurkacz’s two wins came on faster surfaces, on grass and indoors in Rotterdam.

Stats & Facts

Lorenzo Musetti is a former quarterfinalist at the Paris Masters, but he has lost his opening match here three years running.

Musetti has won six of his seven matches on indoor hard courts this year.

Hubert Hurkacz has twice reached the quarterfinals or better at the Paris Masters, but he hasn’t won a match here since 2023.

Hurkacz holds a 1-3 record on indoor hard courts this year.

Betting Analysis

Both players have given themselves a much-needed injection of momentum with some big results in recent weeks, but Hubert Hurkacz’s overall level has been far more convincing than Lorenzo Musetti’s. He is also the more potent player indoors, although conditions in Paris are typically not as quick as at other indoor events. On current form, Hurkacz should hold a slight edge in this battle between two similarly ranked players.
