Van den Bergh was the surprise winner of the final night in the group stage of the Premier League in Aberdeen, winning 6-5 against Gerwyn Price in the final.

Price eliminated Nathan Aspinall in the semi-finals, leaving not him but Jonny Clayton to progress to next week's final night in London.

Michael Smith, Price and Clayton will fight out who will be the best this season, but Michael van Gerwen's place is shrouded in doubt after the Dutchman pulled out of the Aberdeen event with a shoulder injury.

Final

Van den Bergh 6-5 Price

Van den Bergh started the final well. Via double 19 he immediately grabbed the break: 1-0. On 59 he missed the checkout on the break and Price took advantage by hitting double 10: 1-1.

The Belgian hit 148 in the third leg to take another break lead and make it 2-1. The fourth leg was another break, Price throwing out 54 for 2-2.

In the fifth leg, Dreammaker threw out 96 to make it 3-2 for Van den Bergh. He had a chance to keep his own leg from 40, but missed three arrows. Price was on 50 and did not miss and so leg six was also a break: 3-3.

Van den Bergh threw a strong seventh leg and checked out after 11 arrows for a 4-3 lead. The Belgian was the first to keep his own leg by throwing out tops to make it 5-3.

In the ninth leg, the Belgian lagged far behind and Price was able to win his own first leg. He missed six darts on the double and Van den Bergh got a match dart, but missed double 16. Price then threw a double 10 to make it 5-4.

In the tenth leg there was another break, Price threw out 81 and so the match went to a decisive 11th leg.

Van den Bergh started with a 180 and so had the advantage. Price still went first to a finish but missed 36 with three darts in hand. Van den Bergh then checked out via double 16 and won the match 6-5, and thus the evening.

Semi-finals

Van Gerwen pulled out of the match after complaining of troubles with his shoulder, leaving his place in next week's final in jeopardy.

Price 6-3 Aspinall

Price had an immediate chance to break from tops in the first leg, which he took to make it 1-0.

Price then had two darts on 97 but missed. Aspinall had 74 left and hit tops with his last dart, meaning a rebreak and therefore making it 1-1. Price also grabbed another break by throwing out 128 beautifully: 2-1.

In the fourth leg, the Englishman had two darts at tops from 54, but missed both. Price hit tops to make it 3-1. From 65 Aspinall had a chance to come back, but tops was missed again. Price just failed to throw out 116, as tops was missed there too. Aspinall then did manage the checkout and came back to 3-2.

Aspinall was completely taken out of focus by a whistling supporter. It partly cost him the leg, as Price threw out on double 5 for 4-2. Aspinall came back into the match in the seventh leg, via double 9 to make it 4-3.

A 180 in the eighth leg put Price over on 24 and he also threw out double 12, making it 5-3. Aspinall then needed to win all the legs to go into the final night. However, he was unsuccessful, as Price threw out double 5. No final night for Aspinall: 6-4.
